Now that you know what you are looking for in an ear and nose hair trimmer, the team at Groom+Style for art of shaving have collected a few that truly stand above the rest. Groom+Style have collected the best options from several categories, to ensure you find a trimmer that fits your unique needs.

Let’s follow our noses to find the top best five ear and nose hair trimmers on the market for January, 2024.

1. Philips NT5175/49 Norelco Nose trimmer 5100 (replaces model NT9130/40)

nose hair trimmer - philips-nt5175_49-norelco-nose-trimmer-5100
Philips NT5175/49 Norelco Nose trimmer 5100.

If you’ve come to the realization that it’s time to invest in a nose hair trimmer, it’s important to choose one that can handle various hair removal needs. That’s why it’s worth taking the time to research and find the best nose hair trimmers on the market. Look for trimmers that are specifically designed for nose and ear hair removal, with features such as rounded blades, protective guards, and easy-to-clean attachments. By choosing the right nose hair trimmer, you can make the process of hair removal as easy and painless as possible.

That’s what the Phillips Norelco 5100 does; it provides a comfortable and effective trim for both the ears and the nose, but it can also take care of unruly eyebrows and trim sideburns, neck hairs and stray beard hairs as well. Its real strength, though, is cleaning up the nose and ears.

You use the Nose Trimmer 5100 the same way you use most of these devices – with a “whisking” motion to remove unwanted hair. You insert the head of the unit into the orifice to be trimmed, make a couple of circles around the area, and – if the trimmer is a good one like the Norelco – you’re done.

The blade is made from sharp chromium steel and surrounded by a skin guard, to ensure that the hair is cut but your skin is not. One thing the review team particularly like about this unit is that it has a single blade powered by the motor, instead of rotary blades which don’t get as close to the skin.

The device runs on a single, lithium AA size battery (which is included!), and users can expect roughly 100 minutes of use out of the battery before it needs to be changed. The battery life is above average for such trimmers.

Fully featured and high-quality ear, nose and eyebrow trimmer (with battery included).

Groom+Style mentioned eyebrows and sideburns earlier, and special tools for them are included with the Norelco Nose Trimmer. There are two different eyebrow combs (one is 3mm for short eyebrows and the other is 5mm for longer eyebrows) which will let you get them nice and tidy. For the sideburns, neck and other areas which need a slight cleanup, there’s also a flat precision trimming head and detailing comb perfect for doing touchups.

The engineers at Philips also spared no expense when it came to design. This a handsome little nose trimmer. The rubberized grip looks great, and will also prevent the device from slipping from your hand, and the removable heads set it apart from other trimmers on the market.

This unit is attractive, easy to maneuver with a non-slip rubber grip, waterproof (heads are washable), and comes with a case to hold all of the accessories. More importantly, it’s one of the most comfortable (or as some would say, least scary) trimmers you can put into your ears and nose. Overall this trimmer is a great buy.

Specifications of the Philips Norelco NT5175/49 Nose Trimmer 5100:

  • Dimensions: 2 x 1 x 6.5 inches
  • Weight: 4.8 ounces
  • Attachments: Trimming head, flat comb, two eyebrow combs
  • Wet/Dry: Yes (do not fully submerge, the heads are washable)
  • Power: One AA lithium battery
  • Warranty: Two years

2. Panasonic ER430K Ear & Nose Trimmer with Vacuum Cleaning System

Every one of us has had at least a few of those revelations that can best be described as a “Why didn’t I think of that?” moment.

The review team would guess that other grooming product manufacturers had that reaction when they saw this Panasonic model, which was the first nose and ear hair trimmer that vacuums up the clippings and collects it in a chamber as it works. After all, who wants to clean bits of hair out of their ears or nose after they’re done trimming?

The hypoallergenic, curved stainless steel blades (don’t worry, they’re protected by a safety cone so you won’t nick yourself) on the ER430K are shaped nicely to remove most of the hair from inside the nose and ears, but are carefully designed to leave a little hair behind so it can do the job its grown for: filtering out dirt.

In other words, the insides won’t be completely smooth, but they’re not supposed to be. The point of a trimmer is to make sure no hairs stick out where others can see them, and the Panasonic Trimmer does it perfectly.

Panasonic ER430K and ER-GN30-K best Nose and ear hair Hair Trimmer
Two great nose hair trimmers that are easy to keep clean.

You may find that you need to make several passes with the Panasonic to catch all of your problem hairs; that’s because this unit uses rotary blades instead of the single blade used on the competing Norelco. We didn’t find that to be a major drawback since it only takes a few extra seconds.

And the vacuum system which pulls the trimmed hairs into a collection chamber (instead of leaving them in your nose or ears) is a convenience which far outweighs the slight amount of extra trimming time.

The ER430K is compact and fully immersible, so you can use it in the shower and simply clean it under a faucet. It’s not specifically designed to be used on sideburns or neck hair, but it works just fine there as well.

2a. Panasonic ER-GN30-K Nose Ear & Hair Trimmer

Panasonic ER-GN30-K

If you like the look of the Pansonic nose and ear hair trimmer, but want to save a few dollars, then you can get the model without the vacuum option.

It is another high-quality product, with an easy to use ergonomic design, long battery life (AA Battery which is not included), and is waterproof so it can be used in the shower and easily cleaned under the tap.

Groom+Style ranked this unit second on our list of the top 5 best nose & ear trimmers because it isn’t as versatile as the Norelco, but there’s little to distinguish the two in terms of quality. The Groom+Style review team could easily have put this one at the top.

3. Groom Mate Platinum XL Nose & Ear Hair Trimmer

nose hair trimmer - Groom-Mate-Platinum-XL-Nose-and-Ear-Hair-Trimmer
Groom Mate Platinum XL Nose & Ear Hair Trimmer.

Groom+Style weren’t quite sure what to think when we first saw that the Groom Mate didn’t have a battery – you have to power it yourself. On one hand, the thought of not having sharp, electric-powered blades spinning inside of our ears and nose was sort of comforting. On the other, we weren’t sure we wanted the responsibility of spinning those sharp blades by hand.

It turns out that there was nothing to worry about. All you have to do is insert the business end of the trimmer into your nose or ear, and softly twist the bottom of the unit back and forth.

The rotary blades will gently and painlessly trim the hairs they come in contact with, without nicking or scratching your skin. You end up feeling in total control of your trim, able to move as deeply into the nose or ear cavity as you wish while knowing the blades will ease to a halt as soon as you stop twisting.

The Platinum XL doesn’t have a vacuum system like the Panasonic, of course, but it does use gravity to pull the clippings into the trimmer’s barrel. You can either brush them out after that or run the unit under water to clean it out completely; this model is made completely from stainless steel so it won’t rust, even if you use it in the shower.

Groom Mate Platinum XL and KEDSUM Professional - best nose and ear hair trimmers
Brilliant, long life, manual options.

It’s also exceptionally small, so you can just slip it into a pocket and carry it wherever you’re headed. The blades are guaranteed to never dull, and the entire trimmer is backed by an unconditional lifetime warranty.

As it does not use any batteries it will never run out of juice, and you’ll never get yourself caught without being able to trim your nose or ears. It is an efficient and easy to carry the device, which should be enough for most users.

The Groom Mate’s all-steel look may not make it the most beautiful trimmer Groom+Style have reviewed, and it’s not really meant to be put anywhere except your nose or ears – but it may be the most convenient and functional of all that made our rankings.

3a. KEDSUM Professional Portable Manual Nose & Ear Hair Trimmer

Groom Mate Platinum XL and KEDSUM Professional - best nose and ear hair trimmers

When you like the idea of a mechanically operated nose and ear hair trimmer but want some alternatives, then you can also consider the KEDSUM trimmer.  It is made from stainless steel so it will last a long time and can be easily cleaned under the tap.

The KEDSUM works slightly differently to the Groom Mate – it has handles that you squeeze which in turn to rotate the sharp interior blades.  It is sold in a nice metal box and comes complete with a brush and a fingernail clipper.

While this device won’t perform additional tasks, like trimming eyebrows or sideburns, it does the job it is billed for exceptionally well, and its small profile and battery-free operation makes it among one of the best trimmers on the market.

4. ToiletTree Heavy Duty Steel Nose Trimmer With LED Light

ToiletTree Products Water Resistant Heavy Duty Steel Nose Trimmer with LED Light

Here’s another entry from the “Why didn’t we think of that?” category. The ToiletTree is a quality nose trimmer with a built-in, bright LED light that lets you see exactly what and where you’re cutting.

It’s sturdy, with a strong steel housing as well as stainless steel rotary blades, and it’s water-resistant so you can use it to do touchups in the shower and then run it under a faucet for easy cleaning.

ToiletTree Heavy Duty - best nose and ear hair trimmer
Very, very solid nose trimmer with a light (which is surprisingly useful).

The Groom+Style team liked the fact that the ToiletTree model worked quickly and painlessly, as well as the fact that it’s quite reasonably priced. This is not the most powerful trimmer we’ve found, probably because (like many others) it runs on a single, standard AA battery. However, it fits nicely in the hand, it can also be used to trim beards, eyebrows and ear hair, and it comes with a lifetime replacement warranty.

The ToiletTree nose trimmer should give you a nice trim for a long time, and if it doesn’t last for some reason, the company will replace it. That’s a winning combination.

5. Sportsman USB Nose Hair Trimmer

 Sportsman USB Nose Hair Trimmer

For those who hate swapping out batteries or those who travel a lot, this Sportsman nose trimmer is a find. It operates on a built-in 350 mAh lithium-ion battery that can be recharged via the USB port on your laptop or any other device. A charge will last for 30 days with daily use, and recharging takes eight hours or less.

Sportsman USB Nose Hair Trimmer - best nose and ear hair trimmer
A quality rechargeable nose, ear, and eyebrow option.

As for the trimmer itself, it performs well. The curved stainless steel blades cut nicely without pulling hairs, and they move faster than most other nose hair trimmers you’ll find. You can also use the Sportsman to trim your beard, sideburns, ear, and eyebrows, and there are separate attachments for most of those functions.

Why is it ranked down here at #5? It’s a few bucks more expensive than most of its competitors yet not quite as sturdy, and even though it’s billed as “waterproof” only the blades are actually waterproof, not the body.

USB charging and changeable heads make the Sportsman nose trimmer worth considering, although it’s tougher to clean and can’t be safely used in the shower.

More info on the Sportsman USB Nose Hair Trimmer:

  • Dimensions: 8 x 5 x 1 inches
  • Weight: 5 ounces
  • Attachments: Four changeable heads for nose, beard, sideburns, eyebrows
  • Wet/Dry: No
  • Power: Built-in lithium-ion battery, rechargeable
  • Warranty: 1 year, limited

Andis Fast Trim Personal Trimmer for Nose, Ears, and Eyebrows (13430)

nose hair trimmer - Andis Fast Trim Personal Trimmer for Nose, Ears and Eyebrows (13430)
Andis Fast Trim Personal Trimmer for Nose, Ears, and Eyebrows (13430).

When you picture a nose and ear hair trimmer, you’re probably visualizing the Andis Fast Trim: a thin, round silver tool with a small rotary implement at one end. That means this trimmer doesn’t do anything except trim ears and noses – but it does that just fine, for only eight bucks.

While some manufacturers may label their trimmers as suitable for shaping eyebrows, it’s important to be cautious when using a brow trimmer. Some handheld rotary blades may be difficult to control, making it challenging to do precise work on the eyebrows. In fact, some review teams have found that these types of trimmers may be more likely to accidentally remove chunks of eyebrow hair than to create a clean and precise shape. Therefore, it’s important to choose a brow trimmer carefully, and to exercise caution when using it to avoid any unwanted mishaps.

The Fast Trim runs on a single AA battery which powers the rotary cutting blades. They’re recessed inside the end of the trimmer so they don’t actually come in contact with the inside of your ears or nose.

They simply trim the excess hair quickly and efficiently. The cutting blades are made from rustproof, surgical stainless steel so they can be rinsed off under the faucet, although the unit itself is not considered waterproof by the Andis trimmer.

It’s easy to judge the relative merits of products based on their price, and the review team fully expected that, for the price, this trimmer would be just a throwaway novelty not worth taking the time to review.

We were wrong. The Andis Personal Trimmer does as good – or better – on nose and ear hair than the higher-priced units in our rankings. It just doesn’t do anything else besides trim the pesky hairs in those two sensitive areas.

Facts and figures for the Andis Fast Trim Personal Trimmer for Nose, Ears, and Eyebrows:

  • Dimensions: 2.5 x 5.5 x 7.5 inches
  • Weight: 3.5 ounces
  • Attachments: None
  • Wet/Dry: No
  • Power: One AA battery
  • Warranty: Five years

Remington MPT-3600 Dual Blade Pen Trimmer

nose hair trimmer - Remington MPT-3600 Dual Blade Pen Trimmer
Remington Dual Blade Trimmer.

None of the multi-function trimmers on this list are expensive. But if you don’t want to lay out that much cash for a model which will take care of your nose and ears as well as other areas, here’s an option for half the price.

The Remington MPT-3600 was primarily created to do quick touch-up work on eyebrows, neck hair, and sideburns, but also comes with a fine detail trimmer head which is designed for the removal of ear and nose hair.

There are two titanium-coated, hypoallergenic blades on the Remington Pen Trimmer, and rather than rotate around the inside of your nose or ear, these blades simply clip the hairs. That means you have to be a bit more careful when doing your work, but you won’t have to worry about the rotary blades spinning around and cutting off the hair that should be left inside to filter out dirt.

The Remington also functions as a trimmer for sideburns, mustaches and other facial hair, of course, since that’s what it was created to do. The two-position head on the unit comes in handy for those cleanup chores, and there are two combs supplied as attachments which ensure that the hair is trimmed to a specific length.

Groom+Style wouldn’t suggest the MPT-3600 as a “first option” for nose and ear hair trimming, but if you’re going to be buying a tool to keep your eyebrows or sideburns neat, this is an inexpensive way to take care of multiple problems including the hair protruding from your ears and nose.

In-depth on the Remington MPT-3600 Dual Blade Pen Trimmer:

  • Dimensions: 1 x 4 x 8 inches
  • Weight: 3 ounces
  • Attachments: Fine detail trimmer head
  • Wet/Dry: No
  • Power: Two AAA batteries
  • Warranty: Two years

Most Frequently Ask Questions

Is it good to trim nose hair?

It is generally considered good hygiene to trim nose hair. Nose hairs serve an important function in filtering and moisturizing the air you breathe, but if they become too long, they can be visible and may cause embarrassment or discomfort. Trimming nose hairs can help to maintain a clean and well-groomed appearance and can also help to prevent irritation or blockages in the nostrils.

What is the best way to remove hair from your nose?

There are a few different ways to remove hair from your nose, including using scissors, tweezers, or an electric nose hair trimmer. Each method has its own benefits and drawbacks, so it may be a good idea to try a few different methods to see which one works best for you.

Regardless of which method you choose, it is important to be careful and gentle when removing nose hairs to avoid irritation or injury.

Is it better to pluck or trim nose hair?

People generally think that it’s better to trim rather than pluck nose hairs. Plucking nose hairs can be painful and can cause irritation or inflammation of the nostrils. It can also be difficult to reach the hairs in the back of the nostrils, and plucking these hairs can be especially painful. In addition, plucking nose hairs can damage the hair follicles, which can lead to scarring or ingrown hairs.

Conclusion

When searching for the most suitable ear and nose hair trimmer, our top 7 list of the best options on the market today will help you in making the right choice. Each of the options comes with its own set of advantages and disadvantages, so it’s important to know your priorities before making a purchase.

Regardless of your budget, you’ll be able to find a trimmer that meets your needs. Don’t delay any longer and say goodbye to unsightly ear and nose hair with one of these top-rated trimmers.

  1. On another site there is a review of the Panasonic ER-GN30-K. One of the cons listed is: “Replacement blades cost as much as the trimmer itself”. When would you have to replace the blade of a nose and ear hair trimmer? There isn’t a thick forest in the nose and ears.

Also, what about the Philips nose hair trimmer? Do you need to replace the blades on it?

    Reply
    • Hey Alex,

I haven’t used mine enough yet (after 2.5 years) to the point where I would need to replace the cutting blades. But I guess eventually they could stop trimming effectively (the inner blade is quite small) – which would be a bonus in fact because in means the unit is going to last a long time (4+ years?). I think replacement blades and heads cost about $10 – so the other site does have a point…but after 4 years I might consider buying another model or buying a completely new unit anyway?

The philips nt5175 uses more of a trimmer cutter design, and the manual says the cutting head does not need oiling. There also do not seem to be any replacement parts that I can find online, so it would seem that Philips are insinuating that the trimmer heads will not need to be replaced…

      Kind Regards,
      Pierce

      • Thanks. How long do you estimate that the Panasonic ER GN30 K will trim effectively until you would need to replace the blade?

        • Hi Alex,

I have been using mine for a few years and it is still cutting effectively. I guess I use it a few times a month…The volume of hairs it actually cuts is very low, and the frequency of use is also very low, so I can see it lasting a few more years at least!

          Kind Regards,
          Pierce

          • Thanks. The reason I ask is because Panasonic recommends changing the blades after 3 years on this nose an ear hair trimmer and their beard trimmers. But they don’t mention usage time. This is a very low lifespan. If you would use this nose and ear hair trimmer 4 times a month(once a week) for 5 minute max on the ear and nose hairs( even 5 minutes is long for both ear and nose) that would be 20 minutes a month(5 minutes a trimming session*4 times a month). Per year that would be 240 minutes(20 minutes a month * 12 months). 240 minutes is 4 hours. So 4 hours a year. In 3 years that would be 12 hours(or 720 minutes). A very short lifespan for an ear and nose hair trimmer.

          • Hi Alex,

You are absolutely right. However, on the flip-side it might not actually be just the usage time that is the issue for a lot of people. If you don’t clean and oil the cutting blade after use, or you put the trimmer away wet, this can all lead to a dulling of the cutting edge – which can over time build up?

            Kind Regards,
            Pierce

  2. I had a relatively inexpensive, simple Conair unit for about 15 years and it worked beautifully; without fail. When it finally kicked the bucket last year I was disappointed to discover that it’s no long made. I ordered the new model (NE1), which has a built-in LED light. When it arrived I discovered that it has two parallel cutters instead of just one. Hmm. Better? Turns out that it’s not. It’s worthless. The old one unit had one cutter that allowed me to attack a nose or ear hair with strategic precision; tight up against the skin. It literally shaved away the hair. This new arrangement, for whatever reason, leaves a noticeable stubble, no matter how I try to attack the hair(s). Thoroughly disappointed.

But today it stopped working. It just died … in less than a year. BUT I AM JOYFUL!! Now i can throw this piece of junk in the trash and can buy a superior replacement from another brand.

  3. Nose and ear hair trimming is a must as you get older. Nobody looks good with hair sticking out of his ears, or nose for that matter. These clippers are the way to go. I mean let’s face it the other alternatives are not that appealing. Sticking a scissors up your nostrils is asking for trouble, and getting a waxing is out of the question (I saw a youtube video of a guy getting his nose hair waxed recently and I literally felt his pain!!).
So nose hair trimmer, it is. You’ve listed some very good options in this post, however I have to say that my personal favorite is the Panasonic ER430K. First of all because I prefer a Circular blade Nose Hair Trimmer, and the vacuum feature is ideal.

  4. I just bought a Fancii lighted nose trimmer and they worked surprisingly well, better than my old Panasonic model. So far so good.

  5. Number five does a horrible job. You use them for your nose and think you’re done. But you soon feel the annoying bristles and go back and use it again hoping this time it will do the job.The reason I’m here is to find a replacement for that duel blade.

  6. The problem I’m running into are that most of the nose hair trimmers have tips like #2 and #4 which I don’t understand how people use them. The slots to “catch” hair and trim it are no small and narrow that it takes me 10 minutes to use back and forth, circle around this inside of my nose, round and round, up and down and it still doesn’t get everything. It’s very frustrating and how they are still being made that way boggles my mind. I’m gonna give #1 a try because it looks like it will actually trim as it’s swiped against the skin vs HOPING that hair follicles fall into the narrow slots of the other two mentioned. If that doesn’t work then I guess it’s small scissors for me.

  7. I bought # 2 – Panasonic ER430K Ear/Nose Trimmer.
I barely used it maybe once a month.
It stopped working after 2 years, light use.
It only lasts as long as the warranty.
It sat on the shelf in its box the entire time & I cleaned it after each use. Panasonic stands firmly by their 2-year warranty, not one day longer.

Before this one I bought a Remington nose trimmer with a 90-day warranty.
Again, very light use, gentle handling, kept it in it’s package.
It stopped working less than a year.

These nose trimmers are cheaply made in China with cheap parts.
They are only made to last as long as their warranty.
So we consumers have to buy a new one every 1-2 years.
That’s how they make their money.

    • Hi Mark,
You are right, as mentioned in the article “quality begets higher prices” (the Panasonic is more expensive than the Remington). You could try the Norelco which has a higher quality, the Andis trimmer with the 5 year warranty, or the #3 Groom Mate which does not have any electronics to break.
      Kind Regards,
      Lisa

  8. Over time I have purchased more than 5 nasal hair trimmers. They all have a common problem: Uncertain electrical contacts (to the battery, motor and/or switch) that throw the unit off service and send you to search which of all the spring contacts does not work. So far my best unit has been a very old Remington. However, this also developed lately intermitent contact problems. If I were to design a new trimmer I would make a point of securing good electrical contacts first and then everything else; if the motor cannot run, no matter how good the razors are, you have no trimmer!

    Reply
    • Very good points there. The electric contacts and form factor have been a achilles heal for companies to design at 20$-30$ price point- a very good reason why most if not all high end electric trimmers are now coming with nose & ear hair attachments.
