The Wahl model 9818 is exceptional. As the best men’s beard trimmer, it boasts powerful lithium-ion technology that provides twice the torque of comparable models. The trimmer feels comfortable to hold, although it may be slippery if your hands are wet or oily. It is well-balanced and cuts evenly without pulling. Overall, it is an excellent choice for both taming thick, unruly beards and achieving precise grooming.
The icing on the cake is the 9818 precision trimmer blade for shaping beards and mustaches. The Wahl is one of the few models reviewed by the Groom+Style for art of shaving that controls the look of your beard better than other men’s groomers.
And three removable stainless steel blades (stainless steel lasts longer than carbon steel and is perfect for thick beards) come with this shaver: a standard precision blade for most tasks, a contour shaver, and an ear/nose/eyebrow shaver.
The Wahl 9818 is everything you’d want in a beard trimmer (beard trimming, stubble or detailing, to head hair or body grooming): solid, powerful, versatile and reasonably priced for a product with a 5-year warranty. Facts and figures for the Wahl 9818 Lithium Ion Plus Stainless Steel Beard Trimmer: - Dimensions: 1.2 x 1.4 x 6.2 inches
- Weight: 12 ounces
- Length settings: 13, from 1/16” to 1” (No. 0 guard/1.5mm to No 8/25mm).
- Blades: Stainless steel T-Blade, detail shaver, detail trimmer, ear/nose/eyebrows
- Cuts without guard: Yes – can trim to about 0.5 mm without the guard
- Waterproof: No
- Power: Lithium-ion battery, rechargeable
- Runtime: 4+ hours; Charge time 1 hour
- Runs while plugged in: No
- Warranty: Five years (60-day money back guarantee)
- Dual-voltage: Yes

The Philips Norelco BT5210 is another great beard/hair clipper, especially for those who like limited attachments and the convenience of a zoom wheel.
Like the Wahl, this cordless model has a powerful motor, sealed self-sharpening steel blades, and a rechargeable lithium-ion battery. And with a built-in scaling wheel that adjusts the trim length instead of a set of guide combs, it can handle longer and shorter sizes than the Wahl (1/64 inch to ½ inch).
Two hair combs and a body comb are included for those who want their clipper to be used as a clipper or body hair clipper. Another good thing about the Philips Norelco is that it is waterproof, which makes cleaning much more manageable (it is waterproof to avoid mess, but the straightener cannot be used in the bath or shower).
The BT5210 isn’t quite as impressive compared to the Wahls motor power and rechargeable battery life, but it’s convenient and slightly less expensive and does a great job trimming beards and body hair. More details on the Philips Norelco Beard & Hair Trimmer Series 5100 – BT5210: - Dimensions: 5.9 x 2.4 x 9.6 inches
- Weight: 14 ounces
- Length settings: 17, from 1/64” to ½” (small guard comb 0.4 – 7mm, and large guard comb 7 – 13mm)
- Blades: Stamped steel, adjustable zoom wheel
- Cuts without guard: Yes
- Waterproof: Yes for cleaning
- Power: Lithium-ion battery, rechargeable
- Runtime: 70 minutes; Charge time 1 hour
- Runs while plugged in: Yes
- Warranty: Five years (you do need to register the product for the 5-year warranty www.norelco.com/register)
- Dual-voltage: Yes

Another product from Philips Norelco worth mentioning is the Philips Norelco QT4070 Vacuum Beard. The specifications are explained in detail just below.
Here’s another maintenance-free option from Philips Norelco with a zoom wheel with 20 built-in length settings from 0.5mm to 10mm.
But thanks to the built-in vacuum, it makes an impressive beard trimmer. The only beard and mustache trimmer here is a savior for those concerned about hair loss.
The vacuum does a great job of picking up the scraps – 90% of the scraps go into the built-in storage bin to be emptied and cleaned later. With this clipper, you don’t have to fear the time-consuming task of cleaning hair from the sink or the floor.
Good performance, well-built – and a cool vacuum feature – all make the 7100 an interesting choice. More than a novelty feature and certainly a trimmer worth considering. - Suitable as a Travel trimmer: Yes, automatic 100-240 voltage (AC adapter/charger)

If you want an all-purpose razor at a great price, we recommend checking out the Remington MB4045B. If you need a long-flowing beard trimmer and don’t want to pay a high price for a tail, this is your #1 choice. It is an attractive-looking device that fits comfortably in hand and takes care of any man’s beard without any problems.
The MB4045B has a blade with 18 length settings and three combs – a blunt comb (which can be shortened from 1mm to 5mm in 0.5mm increments), a medium comb (1.5mm to 18mm), and an XL shoulder ( 20 mm to 35 mm). It is suggested mm) suitable for working with a long beard. Like the Wahl, this beard trimmer delivers a close shave.
The older model MB4040 has fewer length settings.
It’s become almost unfathomable not to have a Remington product in the men’s grooming range – not just trimmers for men. Diving into the product, the Remington MB4045B Mustache, and Beard Trimmer deserves plenty of praise for its simplistic design – it’s sleek, easy to hold and makes little if any compromises in regards to either form or function. The titanium blades are self-sharpening.
It also features a long-lasting battery that gives you two hours of cutting time to achieve the perfect look. Another bonus on the functionality front is the zoom wheel that gives you impressive control over mustache and beard hair length. With the cutting attachment fitted flush with the design, this beard trimmer also offers an impressive measure of durability.
Note – if you are a man who loves beards then check out our list of the best beard grooming kits.

As the name suggests, this is a great beard trimmer or hair edger. The double-sided “OneBlade” design uses the same device for trimming, edging, and trimming. However, this claim is somewhat misleading as this Philips Norelco model is not intended to replace regular shaving.
It takes some time when cutting and gives the user a “five-hour shadow” (which cuts the scalp inefficiently), so it’s a very comfortable shave because it doesn’t scratch the skin.
The razor looks and feels more like a wet/dry razor than a straight razor, with a slimmer body and razor-shaped blade.
The blades of the OneBlade do have to be replaced every four months – if you trim or shave twice a week – see link below.
If you need the product but have a long beard, the OnePladePro has a shaving wheel that can handle hair from 0.4mm to 10mm. Edges and details are light, as the slim design makes the clipper comfortable.
The Philips Norelco battery is nickel-metal hydride, not lithium-ion, so it’s not as powerful as other clippers on our list and thinner. However, the low price can be considered sufficient compensation for these disadvantages.
Note: there are about 12 different model numbers for the OneBlade. The main number differences are explained below, and within those ranges you have options like extra blades and a travel pouch.
Philips OneBlade QP252(X) – face shaving and trimming with 3 or 4 click on combs to adjust the length.
Philips OneBlade QP26(XX) – face and body shaving and trimming with 3 or 4 click on combs to adjust the length.
Philips OneBlade QP65(XX) – face shaving/trimming with a single adjustable comb for the length.
Note: Unfortunately, it looks like this products is not available on Amazon at the moment. We instead recommend that you check out one of the other excellent options listed here.
Like you can’t shave your beard entirely with a razor, trimming your beard with a razor won’t give you the best results. Otherwise, one attractive home has a Philips children’s device with a metal shaver and an adjustable beard trimmer. All you have to do is turn the device upside down, and you can perform all your facial treatments without disturbing the equipment.
First, there’s a dual-foil head with nano-sharp blades that delivers an extremely close shave, along with a mid-trimmer that’s designed to remove hairs longer than the ones the floating heads would normally be able to grab. It works as expected from a Philips Style shaver and gets the job done 20% faster than previous models.
Typically with combination electric shaver and trimmers, the shaver is not that effective, however, the foil shaver on the Philips Style Shaver is extremely high quality.
Just flip this model and – presto! On the other end, you’ll find a high-quality beard and stubble trimmer. The full metal trimmer has a detachable comb with twelve adjustable length settings from 10mm down to 0.5mm.
When you take the comb off, the dual-sided trimmer gives you the choice of a 32mm blade for high-performance trims or a 15mm blade for close detail work or trims in areas that call for a finer touch.
The combination allows you to choose any length, any style or any type of trim for your beard.
The QS6141 is waterproof for complete wet or dry shaving, it gives you 50 minutes of shave time per charge (a foldable charging stand is included), and it does a terrific job shaving your face, trimming your beard – or both. Specs for the Philips Style Shaver QS6141/33 Dual Ended Shaver and Beard Trimmer: - Weight: 1.4 pounds
- Length settings: 12 on adjustable guard, from 0.5mm to 10mm; 15mm and 32mm blades on the trimmer
- Blades: Dual foil, nano-sharp blades on razor; two-sided full metal trimmer for beards
- Cuts without guard: Yes
- Waterproof: Yes
- Power: Lithium-ion battery, rechargeable
- Runtime: 50 minutes; Charge time 4 hours
- Runs while plugged in: No

Have you ever wished you could pretend you were a barber when giving yourself a trim at home? You can with the Andis 4775, the professional trimmer that many barbers actually use. It’s not as expensive as you might think – and just like your hair stylist’s model, it can’t operate in cordless mode or as a wet shaver.
However, its T-blade with curved edges and its hard carbon-steel blades provide the ultimate in precise trimming without leaving bumps, irritation or ingrown hairs. And it’s built like a brick.
There are no adjustment settings on this trimmer. Just as with your barber’s trimmer, you need to switch out the combs to deal with different lengths of hair; four are included (Sizes 0, 1, 2 and 3), which doesn’t give you an enormous choice but if it’s good enough for your barber, it’s probably good enough for you.
The Andis operates on a magnetic motor instead of the rotary motor commonly found in beard trimmers, making it a little less powerful but much more durable.
As you’d imagine from having one of these babies used on your neck, sideburns, and eyebrows for years, it takes a little while to get the hang of maneuvering the Andis GTX carefully, because it’s not a tapered unit like many of the other options in our rankings. It can also be a slight nuisance when your trimmer is attached to a wall plug by a cord, although the cord is eight-feet long so it’s not a major issue.
Once you’re used to the trimmer, though, you’ll find that you can work very precisely and perform fading and outlining as well as straight trimming with the GTX. The motor runs fairly quietly although the blades will get quite hot with prolonged use (not really an issue for home use), and do require regular oiling. But all you’ll need is a white coat and a push broom in order to feel just like a pro when trimming your beard or mustache.
The Andis is a professional quality trimmer, with only 4 comb lengths provided. If you need easy trimming (without training as a barber) of multiple hair lengths of hair, this one is not for you. However, if you want an ultra-reliable trimmer and only need a few set lengths, this is a quality choice. More on the Andis 4775 GTX T-Outliner Trimmer: - Dimensions: 7 x 3 x 10 inches
- Weight: 1 pound
- Length Settings: Four attachment combs: 0 (1/16″) 1.5mm, 1 (1/8″) 3mm, 2 (1/4″) 6mm, 3 (3/8″) 10mm. Can be zero-gaped to trim extremely close (0.2 mm) without the guard.
- Blades: Carbon steel, require replacement every nine months if used for hours every day.
- Cuts without guard: Yes
- Waterproof: No
- Power: Corded
- Runtime: Continuous
- Runs while plugged in: Yes
- Warranty: One year
- Dual-voltage: No

There was no way the review team could leave out this Philips Norelco beard trimmer, which is a terrific budget choice.
Its motor isn’t quite as powerful as those on our top-rated trimmers, and it isn’t durable enough to last as long as those other options.
But it’s versatile with three beard trimming guards (3 to 7mm), three hair trimming guards (9 to 16mm), a detailer, a stubble guard and a nose/ear trimmer, and its self-sharpening tempered steel blades do a better-than-respectable job keeping your beard or hair neat and trim.
This is a lightweight, easy to clean unit which is easy to handle for home trimming jobs and would also be perfect to take on the road.
The Multigroom Series 3000 is an inexpensive trimmer that is versatile and well worth its price, as long as you don’t have a long, thick beard. Specifications for the Philips Norelco MG3750 Multigroom Series 3000: - Dimensions: 6.4 x 2.2 x 9.2 inches
- Weight: 11 ounces
- Length settings: Beard combs 3 to 7mm, hair combs 9 to 16mm
- Blades: Self-sharpening tempered steel
- Cuts without guard: Yes
- Waterproof: Water-resistant
- Power: Lithium-ion battery, rechargeable
- Runtime: 60 minutes; Charge time 2 hours
- Runs while plugged in: No
- Warranty: Two years

That is it for our updated list of the best beard trimmers for January, 2024 – if you are curious about our choices from previous years then continue reading. |
Still a very high-quality trimmer, just not as durable as our new number 1 choice, the Wahl 9818.
Some guys have facial hair that seems to grow by inches overnight. If you’re one of the men who need the ultimate power to trim what you’d like to be the ultimate beard, Wahl has the product for the job.
The 9854-600 is the most powerful of all the trimmers on our list, with a motor that provides twice the average torque for a beard trimmer. And if you don’t need the power for heavy, thick growth, it will also let you zip through a trim in a breeze because you won’t have to go over and over each area.
This unit will also run longer than almost any other trimmer on a single charge, a full three hours for a 60-minute charge, thanks to Wahl’s new lithium-ion 2.0 battery technology, plus a one-minute quick charge feature.
Why isn’t it at the top of our rankings, then? Two reasons: it’s nowhere near as convenient to use as the Norelco, and the detail trimming it provides frankly isn’t as good.
There are only six-length settings on the Wahl, and there are a huge number of blades and combs to juggle depending on what you want to do with the trimmer: three combs (stubble, medium and full), a trimmer blade, a detail blade (which you may not be satisfied with when trimming ear or nose hair), a precision T-blade and a dual shaver blade.
That may be a terrific assortment if you’re either an absolute perfectionist or a hair styling professional who’s adept at juggling attachments; to us, it was way too much to worry about when all we wanted to was to get a great trim. The Wahl All-In-One is quite noisy, and can’t be washed under a faucet, however, it’s a solid, well-built trimmer and crafted to be comfortable as well as effective.
It’s a very good choice for men with forests on their face – and it’s half the price of the Norelco, too. Taking a closer look at the Wahl All-In-One Grooming Kit 9854-600: - Dimensions: 3 x 5.5 x 10 inches
- Weight: 1 pound
- Length Settings from guide combs: 12 (4 combs with 9 lengths on the trimmer head, 3 T-Blade guide combs – 1/8inch or 3mm, 1/4inch or 6mm, 3/8inch or 10mm)
- Blades: Four blades (Trimmer Head, T-Blade Head, Dual Foil Shaver and Detail Head)
- Cuts without guard: Yes
- Washable: No
- Power: Lithium-ion battery, rechargeable
- Runtime: 3 hours
- Warranty: Five years, limited
- The Charger is not universal i.e. will only be suitable for the country you buy it in

9. Panasonic ER-GB370K Men’s Electric Moustache and Beard Trimmer
Once again still a great trimmer, but the battery recharge time and runtime lets it down. The Philips BT5210 just seems to have a slight edge.
Please note: Panasonic recently replaced the ER-GB40-S with the slightly updated model ER-GB370K which is described below.
We mentioned perfectionists a moment ago, and that’s the target market for the Panasonic ER-GB370K. It has the most individual hair length settings of any of our top 13 best beard fade, with 19 choices from 1 mm to 10 mm; there’s no need to juggle a multitude of attachments in order to get the trim you’re looking for.
The blades are very close together to provide as much of a quality trim as possible, and Panasonic angles the stainless steel, hypoallergenic blades at 45 degrees, which they claim is the optimal angle to cut stubborn, longer hair from your face.
You may find, though, that this trimmer is at its very best when trimming hair down to stubble, and not quite as effective at quickly whisking the longer whiskers completely away.
This is a quality unit, but it definitely has a couple of major drawbacks. It uses an old-fashioned nickel-metal-hydride battery instead of a lithium-ion one which means it can take more than half-a-day to fully charge, and then it will only last for 40 minutes before needing to be returned to the charging unit which comes with the ER-GB370K.
There’s also a major plus though; it has a terrific water drainage system which not only lets you wash it under the faucet but prevents water buildup if you want to use the unit with shaving foam in the shower. The rubber grip is also handy for shower use, too.
This Panasonic model is far from perfect but it does a great job for every day, meticulous beard trim ing kit, especially if you’re one of those guys who would love to get through the morning routine of showering and trimming as fast as possible. Details of the Panasonic ER-GB370K Moustache and Beard Trimmer: - Dimensions: 2 x 2 x 7 inches
- Weight: 6.6 ounces
- Length Settings: 19, from 1 mm to 10 mm
- Cuts without guard: Yes
- Combs: Three
- Washable: Yes
- Power: Ni-MH battery, rechargeable
- Run Time: 40 minutes
- Warranty: Two years, limited
- Suitable as a Travel trimmer: Yes, automatic 100-240 voltage (AC adapter/charger)

Note, our previous top choice – this cool trimmer does not seem to be easy to find any more.
We’re well into the 21st century, and there are still no signs of flying cars or even hoverboards that really hover. However, we do have a laser beard trimmer – sort of. The Philips Norelco 9100 doesn’t actually use lasers to burn off hair and give you a neat beard or mustache, but it does use a pop-up laser guide to mark the exact lines where you should trim.
The end result is a perfectly symmetrical beard that your wife or girlfriend can’t possibly criticize. There’s no safety concern either since the trimmer uses a “Class 1” laser which won’t hurt your eyes if it happens to shine into them.
More to the 9100 Than the Laser
There’s a lot more to the 9100 than just a laser. There are 17 settings to choose from for the length of hair to trim, ranging from 0.4 mm to 7 mm (that is 1/64th of an inch to 9/32nd of an inch with an LED display showing the setting you’ve chosen), and you can lock in your preferred setting so there won’t be any variation while trimming.
It also boasts 0.2mm precision settings – if you try to move your thumb and forefinger to measure the difference, you can’t. That’s how precise this Norelco trimmer gets.
The performance of the Beard Trimmer 9100 is outstanding, largely due to the finely-trimmed chromium steel self-sharpening blades which never need maintenance, the tips are nicely-rounded so they don’t irritate your skin despite the closeness of the trimming. There are two sides to the trimmer, a narrow one to use around your mouth and nose and a wide one for easy and fast trimming around the sideburns and the neck.
This is also one of the easiest units to clean that is on the market, only requiring a quick rinse under the faucet to get rid of all the loose hair inside.
With 17 different length settings, it’s easy to achieve a wide range of looks and the sheer precision of these settings even allows for getting the exact stubble you want. The double-sided blade only adds to the precision side of the equation, making it exceptionally easy to create clean, straight lines for sideburns and the narrow design lends itself to styling versatility.
This beard trimmer will run cordless for an hour on each charge of its lithium-ion battery and comes with two combs (a detail comb and a beard comb). For decades, Norelco has been manufacturing many of the finest personal grooming products anywhere, and the 9100 is one of the best they’ve ever produced.
It’s an expensive beard trimmer, as far as beard trimmers go, but if you’re going to have a beard or mustache for the long term you’ll want a look to be proud of. The Beard Trimmer 9100 will provide excellent results with the added benefit of you not having to continually switch between combs and blades. Specifications of the Philips Norelco Beard Trimmer 9100 (Model BT9285/41): - Dimensions: 2 x 1.5 x 7 inches
- Weight: 1 pound
- Length Settings: 17, from 0.4 mm to 7 mm
- Combs: Beard, detail
- Washable: Yes
- Power: Lithium-ion battery, rechargeable

You don’t have to spend nearly $ 100 on a beard trimmer, but if you’re looking for a premium experience, look no further than this excellent model from Philip Beard. It’s the new and improved version of Philip’s popular trimmers. Don’t let this beard trimming tool fool you. It’s a tool that could double as a truffle bag and has a large, comfortable handle.

Most Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a beard trimmer?
If you decide to grow a long beard, you still need to know how to trim it as it grows. And for all of these situations – basically anything but a close shave – you need a good beard trimmer.
Is Wahl better than Philips?
While the Philips wins in its ability to function while charging, the Wahl can still do what you need after a 60-second charge, and the warranty is 2.5x that, all for a few dollars less. I highly recommend them both – neither is a bad option – but Wahl narrowly wins.
Conclusion
These are the best beard trimmers that the Groom+Style team has identified for the year. By the way, if you are committed to keeping your beard, you should consider buying some beard and mustache wax to tame it.
Every office has its clown, and for us, that’s Lyndon. As a fun-loving guy who likes to take the pressure out of tense situations, we rely on him for comedic support to get us through our hardest days. You’ll find him working on a lot of our food-related posts, from drinks to recipe tips, right on down to kitchen fixtures and kitchen gadgets. If there’s one thing we can say about him, it’s that he makes a mean chicken milanese, and he can’t sing (don’t ask him to, we beg of you).
